short and sweet...

this is the farewell email I sent out today from work at BEA...

The time has come. Smitty Phase II : The Rebirth is now showing.

You can never really say all that you want to say when you leave a company after a long stint.

BEA has amazing people and I have been fortunate enough to work with many of them over the years.

Enough said.

I am off to new adventures and as always you can learn about them here: http://www.emichael.net

Enjoy the ride since that is what it is all about.

I look like an ad...

Check out this page: http://www.ciol.com/content/developer/

Scroll down a bit and look for my ugly mug in the middle column. Yeah that face of mine with my blinking title and a call to action - post your queries. I look like an ad for some fly by night lawyer...

so cool.

Ahhh...

This is me deeply exhaling - for what I am not sure but it feels like the right thing to do. I am way behind on my blog - I seem to attack it in waves of aggression. Sometimes I get something posted everyday and then other times I completely ignore it. Oh well. Usually I ignore it on the holidays and that is probably a good things since I should take a break from the keyboard now and then.

Things have been pretty busy both with work and a hectic holiday schedule but a non busy life is probably not one worth living. At least for now. As I tell myself – I can sleep when I am old. Sounds goods anyway. After Shnaghai eWorld I jetted back to HK for a few days and tried to play catch up with the snail mail, bills, email, and generally trying to put my apartment in order. I don’t think I made much progress but I did pursue it between bits of early holiday partying. It is useless to resist…

On Wednesday evening prior to Christmas I hopped over to BKK for a little holiday cheer in the Big Mango. That comment may bother some of you euro folks or people in the used to be good ole US of A but in HK we can just hop right over to Thailand. I love doing that. Between numerous people being in town for two different weddings and the usually stragglers who happen to pop into BKK for Christmas I was kept quite busy roving around and fitting a little time in to party, but I survived. ;) I hope all my friends enjoyed their Christmas and I wish I could have been with family but it did not work out this time. I did see the oldies earlier in the month back in San Fran, some call it frisco, and I am happy to report that the folks are doing well.

Hey Dad – how is the new iBook? So hard for me to say that - brings tinges of jealousy to my gut.

Chna eWorld Recap!

All is over in Shanghai. It came and went like the blur that it is was. My opinion on big external company events is that when you are involved with the day to day planning of the event the actually execution of the event is like one long exhale. As long as everythng goes well, which in the case of this event, it did - then for the most part the tough work is up front. Of course I am not speaking as one of the day to day event coordinators who have a very tough job and who in the case of China eWorld did an amazing job.

So my hat is off to all the event staff and the internal BEA staff who pulled this show off. Awesome job! I also want to point out an amazing job done by one of my employees in China - since I never give her enough praise for the amazing job she continues to do in running BEA's developer programs in China. So Rebecca - thanks for making the developer program such a huge success in China, for putting on the developer party in Shanghai and for helping to make China eWorld such a popular event. Thanks!

Well - here is to next year. I guess we need to start planning it soon. fun fun

dev2dev day Seoul, Korea!

Here I am in the Marriott in Seoul hoping for a record turnout tomorrow. We have 1500 pre-registered and we would like to get over 350 in the chairs. We sold lots of local sponsors and we got some good stuff lined up.

Afternoon Yoga break to shake of the lunchbox blues and 5 iPod minis for the giveaway. Sweet!

Seoul is not too cold and there is a vibe in the air. I feel it - or maybe that is the saki overhang from last nite in Tokyo. Oops - did I just admit to having a drink. Yup - only one - admittal that is.

Tokyo had around 250 and the crowd stayed till the end. Good stuff.

Go Korea.

cheers
